Who we are
Maxwell is a health companion app built for older adults and the people who care for them. It offers a friendly AI assistant, medication reminders, scam protection, peer connection, and optional caregiver support. This policy explains what information Maxwell collects, why we collect it, and the choices you have.
In this policy, "Maxwell," "we," "us," and "our" refer to Maxwell Labs, Inc., 4720 Center Blvd, Long Island City, NY 11109. "You" means the person using the app — whether for yourself or on behalf of someone you care for.
Information we collect
Information you give us
- Account details — your email address (used for our passwordless "magic link" sign-in), and optionally your name and preferred language.
- Profile information — anything you choose to add, such as a display name or details that help personalize reminders and conversations.
- Caregiver relationships — if you link a caregiver or care recipient, we store that connection and the permissions you grant.
Information about how you use Maxwell
- Conversations — the messages and voice you exchange with the assistant, so it can respond and remember context within your account.
- Scam-check submissions — the calls, texts, links, or images you ask Maxwell to review for safety.
- Social features — the profile and preferences you provide for peer matching, and the connections you make.
- Device & usage data — app version, device type, general diagnostics, and approximate location derived from information you provide (for example, to find nearby help or convert an address to coordinates).
Health information
Some of the information you share with Maxwell relates to your health — for example, the medications you track, the doses you log, and topics you raise in conversation. We treat this information as sensitive.
- We use it only to provide the features you asked for, such as reminders, intake history, and personalized responses.
- We do not use your health information for advertising, and we do not sell it.
- We share it with a caregiver only when you have given explicit permission, and you can withdraw that permission at any time.
Please note
Maxwell is a wellness and support tool, not a medical provider. It does not diagnose, treat, or provide medical advice, and it is not a substitute for a doctor, pharmacist, or emergency services.
How we use information
We use the information we collect to:
- Provide and personalize Maxwell's features — chat, medication reminders, scam checks, and peer connection.
- Send reminders, magic-link sign-in emails, and important service notices.
- Keep accounts secure, prevent abuse, and detect fraud or safety risks.
- Understand how the app is used so we can fix problems and improve it.
- Comply with legal obligations and enforce our terms.
We rely on a lawful basis for each use — typically your consent, the performance of our agreement with you, our legitimate interest in running a safe service, or a legal requirement, as applicable in your region.
AI & voice features
Maxwell's assistant is powered by artificial intelligence. To generate responses and process voice conversations, the content of your messages may be sent to trusted AI service providers (for example, our model and voice providers) who process it on our behalf under contract.
- These providers may only use your content to deliver the service to us — not to advertise to you.
- AI responses can be wrong or incomplete. Always confirm important health, financial, or safety decisions with a qualified person.
- We configure our AI providers so that your content is not used to train their general models.
How we share information
We do not sell your personal information. We share it only in these limited situations:
- With caregivers you choose — see the next section for details and controls.
- With service providers — companies that host our systems, deliver email, process AI and voice, or provide mapping/geocoding, acting only on our instructions.
- For safety — to protect someone from serious harm, or to investigate scams, fraud, or abuse.
- For legal reasons — to comply with the law, a valid legal request, or to enforce our terms.
- In a business transfer — if Maxwell is involved in a merger, acquisition, or sale of assets, with notice to you.
Caregivers & sharing controls
Maxwell lets a trusted caregiver stay gently in the loop — but only with your consent. When you connect a caregiver, you decide what they can see, such as medication adherence or safety alerts.
- You choose what is shared, and you can change or revoke access at any time in your settings.
- Caregivers see only what their permissions allow — not your full conversation history unless you explicitly allow it.
- If someone added you as a care recipient, you can review and end that connection.
Your choices & rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:
- Access the personal information we hold about you.
- Correct information that is inaccurate or out of date.
- Delete your account and associated data.
- Export a copy of your data in a portable format.
- Withdraw consent — including ending caregiver access — at any time.
- Object to or limit certain processing.
To exercise any of these, contact us at [email protected]. We will respond within the time required by applicable law. You also have the right to complain to your local data protection authority.
How long we keep data
We keep your information for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide the service. After you delete your account, we remove or anonymize your personal information within a reasonable period, except where we must retain certain records to meet legal, security, or accounting obligations.
How we protect data
We use technical and organizational safeguards — including encryption in transit, access controls, and regular review — to protect your information. No system is perfectly secure, so we cannot guarantee absolute security, but we work to protect your data and to notify you and the authorities if a breach occurs, as required by law.
Who Maxwell is for
Maxwell is designed for adults. It is not intended for, and we do not knowingly collect information from, children under 18. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, please contact us so we can remove it.
Because many of our users are older adults, we aim to keep this notice clear and our privacy choices easy to find. If you need help understanding or exercising your choices, a caregiver or our support team can assist.
Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Maxwell grows or as the law changes. When we make material changes, we will update the "Last updated" date above and, where appropriate, notify you in the app or by email before the changes take effect.
